Everyone is familiar with Comcast Cable, but did you know they’re making a significant investment in the Charleston area? Their new $21.4 million, 80,000 square foot North Charleston call center is under construction in the Ingleside Plantation development. Cullum Constructors is handling the underground piping, which has been a challenge for Michael Nelson and his team. The crew began digging 4 foot trenches that would often fill with water before pipe could be installed, thanks to nearly a foot of rainfall in recent weeks. To combat the flooding, a larger excavator was brought in to quickly dig 20 foot trenches and allow ample time for installation. To satisfy OSHA safety regulations, a larger area had to be sloped back. As always, the team put safety first and made sure all requirements were met prior to any work being performed, gaining compliments from the site contractor’s safety personnel.
Michael Nelson, Philip Manigo, William Santos, Robert Smith, Len Murray and Darrell Murray have faced many challenges including working for two general contractors, schedule conflicts, overlapping inspection requests and a heavily saturated ground. Despite the challenges, this team has pulled together and committed to getting the job done right.
