An apprenticeship blends on-the-job training (OJT) with job-related education (JRE). Apprentices develop practical skills in real-world environments, preparing them for a career path upon completion. Throughout the program, participants gain both technical expertise and valuable interpersonal skills, with their training culminating in recognized certifications that boost their employability.
This year, National Apprentice Week is November 17-23, which is a nationwide celebration for industry representatives, labor organizations, employers, community-based-organizations, and other groups. The theme for this year is: Celebrating 10 Years of Engagement, Expansion, and Innovation. It highlights the impact an apprenticeship can have and the key role apprenticeships play in meeting critical workforce needs across the country.
The daily themes for this year are:
- November 17: Youth and Young People Apprenticeship Day
- November 18: Registered Apprenticeship in New and Emerging Industries and Around the Globe
- November 19: Expanding Registered Apprenticeship to Underserved Populations
- November 20: Women in Apprenticeship
- November 21: Federal Apprenticeship and Veterans in Apprenticeship
Cullum recognizes the impact and value of apprenticeships and proudly supports the National Apprentice Week by bringing more awareness about apprenticeships to the construction industry and the workforce in general. As a leading provider of HVAC services and mechanical construction solutions, Cullum relies on apprenticeships to chip away at the skills gap.
Cullum provides several apprenticeship programs for those who want to learn a trade and secure a career in a growing industry. Programs include a plumbing apprenticeship, HVAC apprenticeship, pipefitting apprenticeship, sheet metal apprenticeship, welding apprenticeship, and mechanical drafting apprenticeship. During these programs, Cullum’s apprentices are paired with a fully skilled craft professional to be mentored. Apprentices learn from professionals in their fields and gain the training and skills required to have a long and successful career.
In 2024, Cullum proudly celebrated the achievements of five individuals who completed their apprenticeships and earned their Journeyman and Journeywoman certifications. In recognition of their hard work and dedication during National Apprenticeship Week, Cullum highlights the accomplishments of Michell Vanegas and Benn Ramirez, who completed Cullum’s sheet metal apprenticeship program, and Bradley Phillips, Brandon Mitchell, and Isaiah Wilson who successfully completed Cullum’s plumbing apprenticeship program, becoming Journeymen Plumbers. Congratulations to everyone on their hard work and accomplishments.
Cullum is enthusiastic about the future of its newly certified journeymen/Journeywoman and all the apprentices currently advancing through the company’s apprenticeship programs. These programs bridge the gap between education and employment, equipping apprentices with essential, hands-on skills tailored to Cullum’s needs. This approach not only enhances job readiness but also fosters a strong sense of professionalism among the workforce.
Cullum encourages those interested in learning a trade or a new skill to look further into the company’s available apprenticeship opportunities. For more information about National Apprentice Week or to find out more about apprenticeship options through Cullum, contact the company today. #NAW
