A design-build project for new construction of a 350,000 square foot pre-cast minimum-security detention center consisting of dormitory-styled housing units with full kitchen, laundry, administration, processing, and public areas. Mechanical work included an expansion of the existing central energy plant to include the addition of two new centrifugal chillers, one new condensing boiler, new three-cell cooling tower, pumps, as well as modifications to chilled water, heating water, fuel oil, and natural gas piping systems.
The new building is a mixture of VAV and constant volume air handlers with smoke evacuation systems housed in two mechanical penthouses. The plumbing scope included new detention style fixtures in stainless steel and porcelain and new gas-fired domestic water heaters.
