Job purpose:
Supervises and coordinates activities of work crew engaged in the fabrication and installation of sheet metal products and equipment.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Selects gage and type of sheet metal according to product being fabricated and knowledge of metal.
- Supervise and coordinate activities of assigned craft workers.
- Interpret specifications, blueprints, and job orders as needed for area of supervision.
- Directs installation of assemblies in building or worksite.
- Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
- Establishes and adjusts work sequences to meet construction schedule, using knowledge of capacities of equipment and assigned personnel.
- May study schedules and estimate worker-hour requirements for completion of job.
- Analyzes and resolves work problems.
- Maintain time records.
- May make cost estimates for contracts.
Requirements:
- Understand shop math
- Work skillfully with tools, metals, and machines
- Visualize three-dimensional objects from drawings, sketches, or blueprints
- Work within precise limits and standards of accuracy
- Perform a variety of duties which may change often
- Rate information using measurable standards
- See well (either naturally or with correction)
- Use hands, fingers, arms, and legs fully
- Lift up to 50 pounds
- Stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl
- Climb and balance on ladders and scaffolds
- Stand for long periods of time
- Completion of apprenticeship program and appropriate journeyman experience required
