In support of Volvo Cars’ operations, Cullum Constructors performed a maintenance repair on an existing 14” chilled water expansion joint. The expansion joint was approximately 32’ above finished floor and could not be isolated for repair without draining multiple buildings. During the Thanksgiving production shutdown, Cullum Constructors used nitrogen to freeze the 14” lines on either side of the expansion joint, drained the piping in between, replaced/repaired components of the expansion joint, re-filled the small section of piping, performed a pressure test, insulated the pipe and returned the system to normal operation.
